A legszebb középkori lelki könyv, Krisztus követése megjegyzi, hogy a szenteknek sem tetszik, ha vitatjuk, melyik nagyobb a másiknál. A szentekben Isten kegyelmét tiszteljük, amellyel – és ez is kegyelem volt! – ők közreműködtek. A szentek tisztelete is Istenhez vezet, akit egyedül imádunk, a szenteket tiszteljük. Így kell érteni az Úr Jézus kijelentését is: „Az asszonyok szülöttei között nem támadt nagyobb Keresztelő Jánosnál. De aki legkisebb a mennyek országában, nagyobb, mint ő.” A megváltás az Ószövetség ígéreteinek beteljesítése. Ezért az új szövetség felülmúlja és beteljesíti az ót. A hittudomány nyelvén a Szűzanyának jár ki az elsődleges tisztelet (protodulia), míg Szent Józsefnek a magasabb tisztelet (hüperdulia), a többi szentnek pedig a tisztelet (dulia). Vezessen minket a szentek tisztelete az Úr Jézushoz, aki a szentség forrása.

For this 112th World Day, the theme, “Even just one of these children,” draws our attention to the minors directly involved in the experience of migration and flight, to the care owed to them, and to the Lord’s promise that “whoever receives one such child in my name receives me” (Mk 9:37).

Dear brothers and sisters, the path before us is clear, though it is not easy. We are called to allow our hearts to be renewed, so that we might seek peace and care for creation. Scripture tells us to guard our hearts, for everything we do flows from them (cf. Prov 4:23).
