Conform obiceiului evreilor din acea vreme, faptul de a fi logodit dădea dreptul la viața de căsătorie. Sfântul Iosif era plecat de mult timp din Nazaret în momentul salutului îngeresc, iar mireasa logodită se afla încă în casa părinților ei. Când a rostit aceste cuvinte mărețe, Cuvântul s-a întrupat în inima sa imaculată, pentru a se naște nouă luni mai târziu la Betleem. Când Sfântul Iosif se întoarce acasă după o lungă excursie, observă că soția sa așteaptă un copil. De ce nu i-a explicat Maica Domnului Sfântului Iosif ce s-a întâmplat? Cine ar fi crezut că mireasa lui logodită ar fi venit cu o poveste asemănătoare? Sfânta Fecioară tace, știe că nu o vor crede, dar mai știe și că, dacă Dumnezeu a aranjat lucrurile în acest fel, se va asigura că Sfântul Iosif va ști adevărul.
Pe 8 decembrie am încheiat Anul Sfântului Iosif. Sfinte Iosif, ocrotitor al Bisericii, roagă-te pentru noi!
Korabeli szokás szerint a zsidóknál az eljegyzés már jogot adott a házaséletre. Szent József az angyali üdvözletkor hosszabb ideig távol volt Názárettől, a Szűzanya eljegyzett mennyasszony még szülei házában. Amikor kimondta a nagy szavakat, szeplőtelen szíve alatt megtestesült az Ige, hogy kilenc hónap múlva Betlehemben megszülessék. Amikor Szent József hosszabb terepmunka után hazaér, észreveszi feleségén, hogy gyermeket vár. Miért nem magyarázta meg a Szűzanya Szent Józsefnek, mi történt? Ki hinné, ha eljegyzett menyasszonya hasonló történettel állna elő? A Szűzanya hallgat, tudja, hogy nem hinnének neki, de azt is tudja, hogy ha Isten ezt így intézte, akkor arról is gondoskodik, hogy Szent József megtudja a valóságot.
The bodily birth of the Lord Jesus proves that the incarnation is real, that the Lord Jesus is true God and true man, and that salvation is a fundamental teaching of our faith.
